During 1995 and 1996 the Doncaster Naturalists’ Society, in support of the local community action against an Open Cast Coal Mining application, undertook extensive hedgerow surveys across the region.

Interestingly a seat overlooking Firsby Reservoir, at the western side of the site, was built and placed there in gratitude for all the work undertaken in opposition to the earlier Opencast Coal Mine Planning Application for the site which due to the opposition was withdrawn.

Motion text

That this House congratulates Crusade in Conisbrough on its achievement in securing the recommendation in the Inspector’s Report on the modification of the Doncaster Unitary Development Plan that the plan should include a brief reference tothe extent and importance of Inclosure Act Award hedgerows and to the powers available under that legislation and under the Environment Act 1995 to protect hedgerows; notes the support by the late honourable Member for Don Valley, Martin Redmond, for this campaign; and further notes that this recommendation will give heart to campaigners against proposed open cast mining in green belt areas the length and breadth of the country.

There is now a proposal to cover Parks Farm, and four other farms in the vicinity, with an enormous solar farm. Will all the previous work to protect the environment be about to be undone?
