Doncaster Naturalists  joint meeting with the YNU at Anston Stones

Directions

Meeting Place: Meet at 10.30 in the car park of North Anston Parish Hall, SE 542843. Leave the M1 at J31 and take the A57 east. At traffic lights in Anston, turn left to North Anston and Dinnington. The right turn off to the car park is signed ‘Parish Hall’ and is opposite the school in North Anston.

Meeting time 10.30. The toilets in North Anston Parish Hall will be open for us from 9.45. Bring lunch.

This year we are going to Anston Stones Wood. This ancient woodland has many veteran trees (it provided Oak trees for the Navy) with flowers associated with old woodlands. There are meadows too, which won’t be at their best after the cold weather. The walk is on good paths, starting high and passing through an amazing limestone gorge where artefacts from the stone age, and Roman pottery have been found. There are well-constructed steps down to the river, and a good path runs beside it, back to the starting point, making a round walk of about two and a half miles.

There will be a meeting in  North Anston parish  hall at 4pm (with cups of tea) for folk to share their finding of the day.
