The next meeting is on Friday, April 11th meeting at 10.30 am in the car park at Brockadale Nature Reserve, post code WF8 3JS, grid ref: SE512174.

It is always difficult to fix timing for spring flowers. I have done a recce today and the Wood Anemones are perfect. Now! So it will not be as good as I hoped by next Friday.

The plan is to walk from the car park down and across the river (OK now for mud,  without any rain this week) and up the steep hill to look for Moonwort and Adders Tongue ferns in Elwiss’s meadow. We will then take the riverside path on the south side of the river to see the Wood Anemones along a very pleasant woodland path. There are fallen trees, but not a real problem.

Lunch can be had in the woodland or return to the car park or stay for a very  adventurous and completely un-surveyed woodland recce. This is a newly-acquired area of woodland by YWT. The previous owner did nothing with this woodland – Sayles plantation – so if you wish to come expect no paths, fallen trees, brambles and a very steep hill. Not for the faint hearted!
