Friday 7th June to Stainforth and Ashfield Bank.

Meet on foot where the track to the canal meets Kirton Lane SE658119 (DN7 5BX). Its a rough but flat walk (boots needed) of 1.75Km or longer. Here is a message from Louise about these meetings:

This is a walk for the more adventurous naturalist:

Park with consideration for local residents and walk to the rendezvous
at the start of the track to the Canal off Kirton Lane.  The track is
very muddy and puddled so please consider wearing wellingtons.  We will
be near the canal tow path which can also be very muddy in wet weather.
A walking pole may be useful!

We may go in search of the only bit of naturally-occurring heather
heath on one of Doncaster’s last ‘unrestored’ colliery sites. There are
some short sections with steeper gradients and there are no formal
paths.  Tracks may be very deeply rutted by motorbike use.

There are no facilities on or near either the Thorne or Stainforth
sites.

Regards

Margaret Prior
