A collection of programmes of the Doncaster Scientific Society are contained within the archives.

These consist of a small card, which is folded into three section, printed on both sides. The six panels thus created are used for displaying 1. details of the society, 2. and 3. the rules of the society, and on the reverse of the card, 4. the programme,  5. and 6. a list of officials of the society for the year to which the card refers, and a list of all past Presidents of the society from its foundation in 1880.

Below are included, for each year of these archived programmes the six panels.

Panel 1.

The Doncaster Scientific Society

The Society was established in 1880 as “The Doncaster Microscopical Society,” for the purpose of affording opportunities for mutual study to those interested in Science.

It constitutes a medium by which members can compare notes, exchange ideas, and render much valuable assistance to each other.

In addition to the periodical reading of papers, and the exhibition of objects and specimens, lectures by scientific men of repute are given in connection with the Society.

A small Reference Library and Collection of Objects have been formed for the use of Members, Donations of Books, Slides, Photographs and Specimens will be thankfully received.

Panels 2. and 3.

Rules

1. That the Society be called  “The Doncaster Scientific Society.”
2. That the Society hold its meetings at 8 p.m. on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays in each month from October to April (excepting the 4th Wednesday in December and the 2nd in January), or at the discretion of the Committee.
3. That the Officers of the Society shall consist of a President, who shall be elected annually, and who shall not be eligible for re-election to the same office two years in succession; four Vice-presidents, six members of the Committee (half of whom shall retire annually in rotation, and be eligible for re-election), and an Hon. Sec. and Treasurer.
4. That the Annual Meeting be held in April, for the election of Officers, reading of the Annual Report, and the transaction of any other special business.
5. That the Society shall consist of Members subscribing 3/6 annually, payable in May, and of Honorary Members who for special reasons may be deemed worthy of election.
6. That any member desirous of resigning his membership shall be required to give written notice to the Secretary before the expiration of the financial year (April 30yh), otherwise he shall be liable for the  ensuing year’s subscription.
7. That the name of any person desiring to become a member shall be submitted through the Honorary Secretary to the Committee. If approved, his or her name shall be entered on the notice of the next meeting, at which meeting the election shall take place. The voting shall be by ballot, a majority of three-fourths being necessary to secure election.
8. That any member may introduce a Visitor at any ordinary meeting, the name of the Visitor to be given in writing to the Secretary by the Introducer.
9. That no alteration be made in these rules except at a General Meeting, of which due notice shall be given.

If possible, an excursion to York will be arranged, in which case special notice will be sent to Members.

Further notices and details of each Excursion will be sent to members who express to the Secretary a wish to that effect.

Recorders of Sections are especially requested to attend as many Excursions as possible, not only “to record” but more particularly in order to place their expert knowledge at the disposal of the general members.
